Getting started

Dependencies

This page lists the software the theme and the Acun UI packages need, with their versions.

Quick example

Check the versions on your computer or server:

php -v # 8.3 or later
composer -V # 2.2 or later
node -v # 20.19 or 22.12 and later; only needed to build

If all three fit, the theme installs and builds. The versions below come from the theme's composer.json and package.json files.

PHP side

Package Version Used for Required
PHP 8.3 or later Runs Laravel 13 Yes
Composer 2.2 or later Installs the PHP packages Yes
laravel/framework ^13.17 The application framework Yes
livewire/livewire ^4.0 Interactive components; also brings Alpine.js Yes
acunsoft/acun-ui-core the version in the zip Acun UI's CSS and JavaScript; comes automatically with the free package Yes
acunsoft/acun-ui-free the version in the zip The free components Yes
acunsoft/acun-ui-pro the version in the zip PRO components, DataTable, search Yes, for PRO
laravel/tinker ^3.0 Trying code on the command line No

On their own, the Acun UI packages work with a wider range: PHP 8.2, Laravel 12 or 13, and Livewire 4. The theme is a Laravel 13 application, so it needs PHP 8.3.

PHP needs the extensions Laravel requires: ctype, filter, hash, mbstring, openssl, session, and tokenizer. Some features need an extra extension:

Extension Used for Required
pdo_sqlite extension The full version's sample data runs in an in-memory SQLite database Yes, for the full version
intl extension Formats numbers and money by language No; without it the package uses its own separators

Your own database also needs its PDO extension (pdo_mysql, pdo_pgsql, or pdo_sqlite).

Build tools

You need these packages only when you rebuild the CSS and JavaScript. The built files come ready in the public/build folder.

Package Version Used for Required
Node.js 20.19 or 22.12 and later Runs the build tools Yes, to build
vite ^8.0.0 The build tool Yes, to build
laravel-vite-plugin ^3.1 Connects Vite to Laravel, downloads the fonts Yes, to build
tailwindcss ^4.0.0 The CSS framework Yes, to build
@tailwindcss/vite ^4.0.0 Tailwind's Vite plugin Yes, to build
@tailwindcss/forms ^0.5.11 Base styles of form fields Yes, to build
@acunsoft/acun-ui-core file:packages/acun-ui/acun-ui-core Acun UI's CSS and JavaScript Yes, to build
@laravel/multiplex ^0.4.1 Runs the composer run dev commands together (macOS, Linux) No
concurrently ^10.0.3 The same job on Windows; needs Node.js 22 No

@acunsoft/acun-ui-core doesn't come from npm; it's linked from the packages/acun-ui/acun-ui-core folder in the zip.

Browser libraries

Package Version Used for Required
Alpine.js the version inside Livewire The components' behavior in the browser Yes; not installed separately
apexcharts ^3.54.1 Charts (acun:chart) No; loaded only on pages with a chart
leaflet ^1.9.4 Maps (acun:map) No; loaded only on pages with a map
flatpickr ^4.6.13 The date range picker No; loaded only on pages that use it

Livewire brings Alpine.js and the plugins the components use (collapse, anchor, sort, mask). If you install Alpine separately, two copies run on the page.

The chart, map and date libraries are registered in resources/js/app.js. To remove one you don't use, delete its registration in app.js first, then its line in package.json.

Fonts and icons

Name Used for Required
Public Sans The panel's text font Yes (the theme's default)
DM Mono Code and numeric labels Yes (the theme's default)
Plus Jakarta Sans The font of front-end theme 2 Only in theme 2
Fraunces The headings of front-end theme 3 Only in theme 3
Heroicons acun:icon icons (v2.2.0, 324 icons) Included in the package; nothing to install

The fonts are downloaded from Bunny Fonts during the build and placed in public/build. The live site doesn't connect to Bunny Fonts; only the machine that builds needs internet access. The fonts to build are listed in the fonts list of vite.config.js.

The icons and the language switcher's flags ship inside the package as inline SVG; no files are downloaded.

Updating

composer update # PHP packages, within the ranges in composer.json
npm update # build tools and libraries, within the ranges in package.json
npm run build # then rebuild

These commands stay within the ranges; for example, they don't move Tailwind CSS from 4 to 5. Read a package's upgrade notes before moving to a new major version. The Acun UI packages are updated with a new zip; the steps are on the Quick start page.

Licenses

The licenses of third-party software are in the THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md file. The projects and their URLs are listed on the Credits page.
